Veterinary Exam Services for Pets

Regular and comprehensive veterinary exams are the cornerstone of your pet’s healthcare. When they are examined by one of our veterinarians, we get a full picture of the state of their well-being. This way, we can make the necessary adjustments to their diet, activity levels, medications and ongoing treatments so they can have the best quality of life possible. Is your loyal companion due for a visit with the St. Norbert team? Drop us a line at 204.261.7376 and we will schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience!

How often should I take my pet to the vet?

Frequency of veterinary exams depends entirely on your pet’s unique situation. In general, we recommend adult pets get a full exam at least once per year. Senior pets should come in twice per year. If your pet has an ongoing medical condition or recently underwent surgery, checks may be even more frequent depending on your veterinarian’s care plan. Remember, pets age much faster than us, and a lot can change in their health over the span of a few months. Regular vet exams allow us to detect any problems early on, so we can prevent any condition from worsening, and stop your pet from experiencing unnecessary pains and aches.

How much does a veterinary exam cost?

Every patient will require different types of testing, which can affect the price of the consultation. For example, if the veterinarian notices an abnormality during the visual check, they may request X-rays or additional bloodwork to be conducted. How can I help my anxious pet go to the vet?

Our team has tons of experience with pets who have all types of behaviour issues. If your pet is quite nervous, please let us know in advance so we can make adjustments at the hospital, and so we can provide you with some helpful tips. Although each patient will have different needs, the most common tips we give to pet parents with anxious pets are:

  • Create positive associations with going to the vet. For example, give your pet treats or extra hugs when getting in your car, or just before entering our door.
  • Go for a walk or play for about 30 minutes before your appointment. Exercise, as long as your pet is able, is a great way to improve their mood before the consult.
  • Get your pet used to being touched on the ears, mouth, paws, etc. by other people. (In a fun and gentle manner, of course!) This way, all the probing we do at the hospital will be nothing new for them.
