Ultrasound and X-ray Services for Pets

Ultrasound and X-rays are diagnostic tools that allow us to analyze your pet’s internal organs, diagnose any condition, and administer the appropriate treatments. Call us at 204.261.7376 for more details about our ultrasound and X-ray services for pets.

Are ultrasounds and X-rays safe for pets?

Absolutely! Traditional X-rays were already 100% safe for pets, but with the development of digital X-rays, the exposure to radiation is even lower. Ultrasounds use sound waves to scan your pet’s body, which are also completely harmless. In fact, no sedation or anesthesia is required for either option as the scans are pain-free. However, if you have a particularly anxious pet, or if they do not like being held down in awkward positions (this may be necessary to scan certain parts of the body), we may recommend sedation. This will prevent them from feeling any sort of stress.

When would a vet recommend an ultrasound?

Ultrasounds provide the doctor with a picture of how your pet’s internal organs and softer tissues are functioning. They may be ordered if:

  • Your pet has a heart condition
  • Irregular urine or blood test results have been discovered
  • For closer examination of the eyes, thyroids, tendons, ligaments, kidneys, liver, bladder, etc.

When would a vet recommend an X-ray?

Also known as radiographs, X-rays are used in veterinary medicine to diagnose a number of conditions like:

  • Bone injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Pneumonia
  • Bladder stones
  • Swallowed objects
  • Heart problems
  • Lung issues
